Beautiful Riva del Garda and the Dolomites

The last stop on our 2023 winter/spring trip was Riva del Garda, at the very northern tip of Lake Garda.  What a beautiful place!  Riva has an enchanting Old Town that is mostly pedestrian, and many good restaurants mixing Italian, German, and Austrian cuisine.  It is surrounded by the Dolomite mountains, giving it a "nestled in" feeling.  The roads along the lake pass through quaint villages, and offer stunning views.

We stayed at Holiday IV Gardan hotel, just a couple blocks from the pedestrian center.  The hotel is a bit funky, and mostly geared to families, but it served its purpose of letting us wind down after a very hectic ten weeks in Italy.

On a sunny Sunday we took the ferry to Limone sul Garda and Malcesine, two of the most beautiful (and touristy) villages on the northern end of the lake.  The ferry made a stop at Torbole, not far from Riva.  We didn't get off, but were able to take a photo of the town.

Next stop... Limone sul Garda.  Known as the farthest north in Italy where lemons are grown.  Pulling into Limone you could see the lemon groves...

Lake Garda is the largest lake and Italy.  Water sports are very popular there.  We saw many different types from the ferry...

On our last day in Riva we discovered the beautiful community garden, which is right on the waterfront...

That wraps up our ten week trip to Sicily and Italy.  It was amazing, the most recent "best trip ever"!  From your incredibly grateful and totally worn out travelers Joe and Chris, Ciao for now!

Lake Como, Menaggio and Bellagio

Our last stop on the Gary and Jill tour was Menaggio on Lake Como.  We stayed three nights in the wonderful Hotel Garni Corona, right in the main piazza, overlooking the lake.  The hotel was upscale, clean and comfortable, and offered a great breakfast.

We saw this amazing Ape as we got off

One of the main reasons to go to Bellagio was to see old friend and artist Agnes Masits, who paints original watercolors of the Lake Como area. Her shop is at Salita Monastero, 16.  It was great to see her.  Agnes is holding the painting that Gary and Jill bought...

This is her shop...

Agnes recommended La Dolce Vita restaurant in Bellagio for lunch.  It was excellent, and Jill found a scooter in the restaurant...

One of the classic Salitas, or stairways, of Bellagio...

From Bellagio we took the ferry to Varrenna on the eastern shore of the lake.  It has a beautiful shoreline view from the water...

We didn't spent much time in Varenna, just enough to walk from the dock into the old town and back to catch the next ferry back to Menaggio.  But we did see the home where Mr. Giovanni Pirelli was born.  He founded the Pirelli Rubber Co...

Back in Menaggio, Gary and Jill went beachcombing...

Than concludes our stay in Menaggio.  It was wonderful!  Gary and Jill will fly home tomorrow, Joe and Chris will go to Riva del Garda in the region of Trentino Alto Adige.  That will be the last of fifteen places to stay on this ten week trip.  It's been great!

Ciao from Menaggio on Lake Como!
